Pax East 2014 Demo
* Experimental Mode is added to Subnautica

Unknown Worlds participated in Pex East 2014, showing off a special build, listed as Build 13, the "Pax2014" prototype build. Extremely little was known about this build for a long while, and only small snipbits were viewable online, and upon the Pax event concluding, the prototype build in question would never be seen again, and would be seemingly permanently lost, the only other footage piece having been potentially released being footage involving an Exosuit (which has since been debunked to not be footage of the Pax build, but instead of another development version)
2014 September 27
* Gasopod is added to Subnautica

Along with the other prototypes, this build was considered lost media for several years, with this build being potentially in even more jeopardy then the other prototypes, excluding Prototype 7, as this build was never given out publicly. However, a user on the Subnautica Reddit discovered by entering the password "pax2014version", you could access this early Pre-Alpha demo. Whether this was intended to be public access or not is unknown, but either way, the build is available to the public.
2014 September 5
* Cyclops flooding is being developed

The build features some interesting qualities, such as having a time limit, as well as being the first build to be manually build instead of procedural generated. The Aurora is also a 2D Skybox texture, the lavazone surrounds the map, and the seaglide and Cyclops are spawned into the world for the player to find via an arrow on the HUD.

* Aurora is added to Subnautica
Access to seven early development Prototype builds were sold within the earliest access campaign, contained within the Subnautica Special Edition, which included other items such as the Special Hull Plate Upgrade and extra soundtracks. The most notable is the change within the name from Descend to Subnautica, though there were also many other changes, which included modular submarines, procedural terrain generation, and entirely different submarines.

The prototypes given out were 1-6, along with 8. Supposedly, the developers stated the 7th prototype was "lost to sea". Likely Prototype 7 is permanently lost.

There was no known way to access these prototypes unless the Special Addition had previously been purchased. As a result, these builds were considered lost media ever since the youtubers in question had deleted their builds, however, these builds would eventually be found and released onto the Internet Archive, providing a lot of insight into the builds. For example, Prototype 5 was listed as version 5.1, meaning Prototype 5 seemingly had some sort of hotfix during development. As well as this, Prototype 8, which had previously never had any footage or known screenshots made public, was finally able to be seen in full.
