Radio Messages
Day and Message Number Dialogue
Sunbeam Log.png Day 9, Message 1

"This is Avery Quinn of trading ship Sunbeam. Aurora, do you read? Over.
Nothing but vacuum. These Alterra ships. They run low on engine grease, they send an S.O.S.; you offer to help, they don't pick up.
Aurora, I'm out on the far side of the system, it's going to take more than a week to reach your position, do you still need our assistance? Over.
I'll try them again tomorrow. See what the long-range scanner picks up in the meantime. Damn charter's going to have us wasting our credits running errands for Alterra."
File:SunbeamRadioEvent1.ogg

Sunbeam Log.png Day 13, Message 2

"Aurora, this is Sunbeam again. We just picked up a massive debris field at your location.
I didn't know how bad... How many of you... I didn't know.
We are now on route to your location. We're going to bring you home. Sunbeam out.
What else can I say? The only time I parked a rig this big on a rock that small was in VR, and I blew it.
Oh, it's a bad option alright, but so are all the others."
File:SunbeamRadioEvent2.ogg

Sunbeam Log.png Day 19, Message 3

"This is Sunbeam. Y'know, Aurora, we're from a little trans-gov on the far side of Andromeda, and we have a saying there.
There's no bad without the good, no good without the bad.
Sounds like you tasted a bunch of the former, but that only means you're overdue a whole lot of the latter.
Might just be we're it.
We're scanning for somewhere to park, we'll be in touch when we find it. Sunbeam out."
File:SunbeamRadioEvent3.ogg

Sunbeam Log.png Day 21, Message 4

"Aurora, we're approaching the planet now, and we have a landing site for you that's... well, it's better than the alternatives.
We've sent you the coordinates.
It'll take us a couple of days to align our orbit, we should be able to establish direct contact with you during that time, then we're coming in to get you.
Cross your fingers the weather holds, and don't leave us waiting. Sunbeam out."

Unknown Log.png Meeting the Sea Emperor Leviathan

"Are you here... to play?
Others came here once. They built these walls.
They played... alone. They bored me.
Now they're gone. And instead... we have you.
We are curious whether you swim with the current, or fight against it as they did."
File:Emp VO 1.ogg

Unknown Log.png Approaching the Incubator Device

"My young want to hatch.
To play outside this place.
We have been here so long.
The others built a passage to reach the world outside.
I asked them for this freedom, but they could not hear me.
If you help us, I will give you freely what the others tried in vain to take."
File:Emp VO 2.ogg

Unknown Log.png Approaching the Alien Arch covered in sand

"With the passage you have opened my young can leave this place.
But first they must feel the time is right and break free of their shells.
This is what the others could not force from me.
To you, I give the secret willingly."
File:Emp VO 3.ogg

Unknown Log.png After hatching the Sea Emperor Leviathan (Babies)

"My young are swimming for the shallows.
I thank you.
Their freedom is my end.
What will it be like, I wonder, to go to sleep and never wake up?
Perhaps next we meet I will be an ocean current, carrying seeds to a new land...
Or a creature so small it sees the gaps between the grains of sand.
Farewell, friend."
File:Emp VO 4.ogg

Unknown Log.png After the final cutscene

"What is a wave without the ocean?
A beginning without an end?
They are different, but they go together.
Now you go among the stars, and I fall among the sand.
We are different.
But we go... together."

Day and Message Number Dialogue
Log-128.png Day 9, Message 1 "This is Avery Quinn of trading ship Sunbeam. Aurora, do you read? Over. Still nothing. These Alterra ships. They run out of engine grease, they send an SOS; you offer to help, they don't pick up. Aurora, I'm out on the far side of the system, it's going to take more than a week to reach your position, do you still need our assistance? Over. I'll try them again tomorrow. See what the long-range scanner picks up in the meantime. Damn charter's going to have us wasting our profit margin running errands for Alterra."

File:SunbeamRadio1.ogg

Log-128.png Day 13, Message 2 "Aurora, this is Sunbeam again. We just picked up a massive debris field at your location. I didn't know how bad... How many of you... I didn't know. We are now en route to your location. We're going to bring you home. Sunbeam out. What else can I say? We're a six seater, and we aren't even slightly equipped to handle this? Our pilot last attempted a planet landing in the academy simulator? Oh, it's a bad situation, but so are all the alternatives."

File:SunbeamRadio2.ogg

Log-128.png Day 19, Message 3 "Sunbeam, broadcasing to all survivors of the Aurora. We've covered more than half the distance, so hold on in there. We're scanning the planet for dry land as we speak. You couldn't have picked a less convenient parking spot, but we'll be in touch as soon as we have a landing site for you. Sunbeam out."

File:SunbeamRadio3.ogg

Log-128.png Day 21, Message 4 "Aurora, its Sunbeam. We've made orbit, and scans have found a landing site on the planet that's only rated hazardous. It's our best shot. Aurora survivor, we have your PDA signature! I don't know how you walked away from that wreck, let alone survived since then, but we'll be happy to bring you onboard and hightail back to federation space.

We've tracked your distress signal, but your ship's left a giant debris field up in orbit, we can't attempt a landing.

We'll send our data to Alterra as soon as we can. Hold on in there. Sunbeam, out."

Trivia

  • Old dialogue from the PDA indicated that originally, instead of the player needing to disable the Quarantine Enforcement Platform, the player needed to forcefully change the atmospheric composition of the planet in order to disperse an energy field in the stratosphere. It is implied that this energy field is the reason the Aurora crashed, likely causing the referenced electromagnetic pulse mentioned in the scan conducted on the Aurora.
  • Several lines of old dialogue reference the fact that the Aurora was originally intended to be a mining and habitation vessel, tasked with ensuring the habitability of a planet prior to the colony ships arriving. As mentioned in a line of dialogue offering a mission briefing, the player is intended to disperse the aforementioned energy field in time, so that the colony ships heading to Planet 4546B don't suffer the same fate as the Aurora.
  • Old Seamoth Dialogue indicates that the Seamoth may have been planned to be able to flood, as well as be repaired and drained, similar to the cut mechanics of the Cyclops.
  • There are different voices speaking in certain dialogue, the voices change depending on where the player is. ex: The Standard female voice is there most of the game, but in a Seabase, Seamoth, Prawn Suit, and Cyclops the voices change.
  • During early development, the Cyclops went through a voice change, going from a more text-to-speech style to a more human-like feel.
  • Obraxis Prime is an Easter Egg, referring to one of the Subnautica developers, Scott "Obraxis" MacDonald.
  • "You've been down too long in the midnight sea.", was a reference to the song Holy Diver by the US heavy metal band DIO. This text was removed from the game.
