{{Template:ExtraSpoilersection|Popular theory on the fate of the lifepods... |
Lifepod 1: Unknown outcome. Possibly lost in outerspace, fell deep into the crater edge or crushed by the Aurora on impact. |
Lifepod 2: All occupanats but Yu drowned. |
Lifepod 3: Seaglide overloaded in attempt to daisy chain two batteries, leaving behind fragment and killing all occupants |
Lifepod 4: Managed to scan and decoy a Reaper (PDA Voice Log specifies this as a Reaper, not anything else), however, either the decoy didn't last long enough and the Reaper ate the person, or the person died due to radiation as they swam towards the Aurora. |
Lifepod 5: You, the player (Ryley Robinson). The only known human survivor of the Aurora to sucsessfully be cured of the Kharaa Bacterium and to escape Planet 4546B alive. |
Lifepod 6: Fuel line exploded, all dead. |
Lifepod 7: Fabricator failed, died of starvation due to lack of food. |
Lifepod 12: A warper sensed the increased infection levels in Danby, came over from the Mountains border of the Bulb Zone, and killed him. In fact, one "alien" message reads "RADIO: ▀▖┗▛Subject 11783 destroyed. Mode ▄▖▜▚┣: patrol. |
New targets unaccounted for: 1." Subject 11783 is most likely Danby. There are no other plausible Warper deaths, which is most likely why there is no other message like this. The unaccounted target is you, obviously. (Just to prove that the radio can really pick up warper transmissions and that they aren't something else - the PDA suggests that the Precursors had telepathic abilities to communicate and download data via electromagentic fields, which they most likely implemented into the Warpers they made. And what is radio? Electromagentic signals.) |
Lifepod 13: Died upon impact, damage due to metal peeling away at "critical external temperatures". |
Lifepod 17: There are no predators that can successfully damage a Seamoth (thus a lifepod). Popular belief states that a crabsnake was the predator, hence,"grim looking snake". Maybe it was a Sand Shark, but another (less plausible) explanation is... maybe a Levathian class snuck over from a bordering biome. |
Lifepod 19: Abandoned by Keen, who met Yu on floating island. Both were intercepted by a Reaper on the way to the Aurora, Yu died. Keen, stuck in some unknown location between the Aurora and the island, somehow dies. |
Lifepods 20-25: Unknown outcome. Possibly lost in outerspace, fell deep into the crater edge or crushed by the Aurora on impact. |

While several lifepods survived initially, by the time the player wakes after being unconscious for three hours in Lifepod 5, it is the only one still intact, the others having sunk or been attacked. The player can receive Signals pointing to the locations of Destroyed Lifepods, or clues that give a rough idea of where to find them from the Radio. As of now, nine Destroyed Lifepods are present in-game. Most Destroyed Lifepods contain abandoned PDAs with Data Downloads, and Data Boxes left behind by their occupants.

Trivia
- In previous versions, Destroyed Lifepods all featured the same damage; it was due to a lack of art time, contrary to the theory that they were all attacked by Warpers.[1]
- A second Lifepod 3 had spawned in the Safe Shallows. This was removed in later versions of the game, however.
