The player can only craft Plasteel Ingots after they have completed the Seamoth, Prawn Suit or Cyclops blueprints. It is an ultra-strong alloy used in the construction of the Cyclops and the Prawn Suit, as well as several modifications for submersibles such as depth modules.

• Real Plasteel was the patented creation of Brazilian automotive manufacturer Gurgel Motores, and was a composite product of mating steel with fibreglass to make car bodywork both light and strong.
• In fictional works, Plasteel is a portmanteau concept of a type of metal that is tough like steel, but as light and moldable as a plastic. The idea has been shared by works such as Warhammer 40K, Star Wars Extended Universe, Foundation, and many others.
• The first usage of the word Plasteel was in Frank Herbert's 1965 novel Dune, in which it it described as "an extremely tough form of steel which is stabilized by stravidium fibres grown into its crystal structure".
