It can be found as a large resource deposit in the Inactive Lava Zone and more sparingly in the Active Lava Zone, making it difficult to mine. As of recent updates, people have been known to see some single pieces of Kyanite in the Blood Kelp Zone, Sparse Reef, the Dunes, and others.
