A lot of Concept Art has been created and continues to be created by the developers for the game Subnautica. Cory Strader, who is employed as Art Director at Unknown Worlds Entertainment, has created most of the Concept Art. However many initial designs were also created by Pat Presley, who is a freelance artist known for his work on the Star Wars: The Clone Wars series.
Concept Art is made for future features of the games, although the designs are subject to change during the course of development. There are Concept Arts for biomes, vehicles, and life forms. Not everything that is shown in the Concept Art actually makes it into the game.

Trivia
- Only 4 showcased biomes are currently scrapped or not-yet under development - these are the Magma Forest, the Alien Seas (1 and 2) and the Infinite Tree. Considering the on-going development of the ILZ and ALZ, the Magma Forest might be added in future updates - though is has not been discussed by the developers.
- The Twisty Bridges and the Lillypad Islands will be added in future updates - as both already have some of their respective models made. The Twisty Bridges will link the Deep Grand Reef and the Inactive Lava Zone (Corridor).
- 6 biomes currently exist only as rough ideas - these will likely never be added, as the developers have never directly discussed them or referred to them. These are the Sea of Pillars, the Super Jet Streams, the Black Field, the Cyanean Rocks, the Pillar of Silence and the Single Cell Landscape.
- Although the concept art showcases a dozen or more different variations of submersible designs, only the Seamoth and the Cyclops will be in the game. There are currently no direct plans to add other submersibles of any kind - though this might change in the future.
- Though many of the creatures showcased in the concept art will likely never be added, about 2/3 of all showcased designs will make it into the official release - most are already available in the early access versions. The most notable exceptions to this are the Rockpuncher, the Spikeplant and the Ghost Leviathan. Though these all have a model and/or textures available, it is unlikely they will be added before the official release.
