Subnautica features a wide range of Biomes to explore and conquer. Biomes in Subnautica represent minature ecosystems. The word itself comes from the term Bioformation.

Subnautica uses a mix of hand crafted biomes and generated biome terrain. Terrain generation is done via maps.

Developer footage of Biome generation can be seen on a playlist from Russel Maekims Youtube channel.

The map is generated using three different maps: Biome Map, Heightmap, and Flow map.

The Biome Map shows differently colored zones, representing each biome.
