Template:Infobox itemThe Alterra handheld habitat builder is a tool that can be crafted using the fabricator.
It allows the player to build a variety of stationary items. This tool is crucial for the deployment of seabases and the customization of the interiors of both seabases and the Cyclops.
While it uses a battery and the energy level is displayed on the player's HUD, the energy doesn't seem to deplete when the Builder is used.

How to Use
- Right-click to open the Builder menu
- Select the tab that is desirable: Habitat Compartments, Power, Appliances or Miscellaneous
- Select an item
- Point the Builder at wherever the item should be placed until an outline appears
- Press Q or E to rotate the object (if applicable)
- Left-click to place the outline
- Build the item by holding the left mouse button
- Done.
- Placed items can also be deconstructed by pointing the Builder at them and holding E, this only apply if the text "Hold E to Deconstruct" appears on the screen. This also gives back a few resources used in the building process.

Data Bank Entry
The Alterra handheld habitat builder has been an essential tool of xenoscientists, colonists and emergency relief crews across seven different empires for more than 50 years.
Habitat modules are hermetically sealed from the outside environment, and may be built on land, underwater, or in a vacuum. Oxygen and power systems are not fitted as standard and must be built separately. Most capital ships carry a full complement of advanced modules and reactors for quick deployment in the field.
Habitats can be enhanced to become long-term homes, remote research stations, defensive outposts and more.
Pressure Ratings:
- A basic corridor module on a proper foundation withstands over 1,200m equivalent depth below sea level before buckling under pressure
- However, connecting multiple modules increases the forces involved, lowering overall integrity
- Three rooms connected by corridors with no foundation will buckle at a depth of just 600m
- These ratings can be improved by reinforcing the standard modules
