Eggs are found in all biomes. They can be used to research animals which will allow the player to create more advanced objects, such as upgrades. Currently, the only egg available is the Safe Shallows Egg, which is found in the Kelp Forest.
Eggs usually are considered to be belonging to an unidentified species until they are analyzed using the Specimen Analyzer.
An egg of a given type can currently belong to up to two different species.
More information and egg animations can be found on Trello.
