Radio

The Communications Relay is an in-development item that is constructed with the Habitat Builder. It can also be found when starting the game, on the back side of the Lifepod. However, found in the Lifepod it needs to be Welded to function.

Uses

After repairing, the Communications Relay will beep and inform the player that a new message has arrived. In chronological order, the following messages will play:

Messages

• "This is an automated bounce back from the Aurora Mining Vessel. Your distress signal has been received. An emergency relief team will be dispatched to your location. *Static* Estimated arrival time: 9...9...9...9...9 hours"
• "This is Second Officer Keen, broadcasting to all surviving Aurora crew! Captain Hollister is gone. I have assumed command. The computer has identified dry land aproximatley 750m south of the crash site. Your orders are to stay together, ensure your immediate safety, and the regroup at the attached co-ordinates. Good luck. Over and out.
• "This is an automated distress signal from Aurora Lifepod 17. Co-ordinates attached. Please send immediate emergency relief team"
• "This is Aurora Senior Engineer LaFette, broadcasting from Lifepod 7! We have survived impact, but flotation devices have failed to deploy and we are sinking! Co-ordinates attached! Will attempt repair! Anticipate losing radio contact at- *Static*"
• "Nine new biological subjects designated. Mode switch: hunting/analyzing. Sharing subject location with other agents." 
• "Karflaget gertrupop flayra. Troflagot e aitrart. Trankleboop. Askrinol forlaget yarma aquit e flyra e aitrart escimay"
• "You've been down too long in the midnight sea. Oh don't you see what I mean?"
• "Who's come to the depths and when? Where are they?"
• "Subject 11783 destroyed. Switch mode: patrol. New targets unaccounted for: 1."
• "This is trade vessel Sunbeam. Aurora, we've received your emergency transmission and your co-ordinates have been recorded. Wish we had better news for you, but we just aren't equipped to assist you at this time. We're anticipating arrival at the nearest starbase in approximately 461 earth days, that's four, six, one days. We will at that time pass on your emergency message to the appropriate corporate authority. You hold on in there, alright? Sunbeam out."

In the future, the player will need to complete certain tasks in order to receive messages.

Trivia

• "You've been down too long in the midnight sea. Oh don't you see what I mean?", is a reference to the song Holy Diver by the US heavy metal band DIO.
• Captain Hollister is a reference to the British TV Series "Red Dwarf (1988)"
• Second Officer Keen assuming command may be a reference to the DOS computer game series "Commander Keen".
•  The line: "An emergency relief team will be dispatched to your location. *Static* Estimated arrival time: 9...9...9...9...9 hours". Is a possible reference to Portal 2. Whereas the announcer says to Chell: "You have been in suspension for nine...nine...nine...nine...nine...".
