Crashfish (Subnautica)

From Subnautica Wiki

Template:Infobox:Fauna Flora The Crash is a life form belonging to the fauna category. It can be found in caves, most of the time in Safe Shallows Caves.

The Crash shares a symbiotic relationship with a type of flora known as the Crash Plant.

Appearance

The Crash is a round, oval shaped fish with a wide mouth and one eye with a large black pupil in front. On its back, along with each side of its body, protrude spikes aligning backwards when it swims forward, and is able to extend even longer when being threatened.

The Crash sports two sets of fins emitting a red bioluminescent glow and has a distinctive red color on the top of its body, with white spots on the sides. Its mouth and underside are white in color.

Behavior

Upon sensing the player's presence, the Crash Plant opens up like a flower and emits a menacing gurgle, revealing the Crash inside.

If the player approaches any further, the Crash will charge at the player with a threatening noise. After a short period of time, the Crash explodes, causing damage to the player, the vicinity or even the Seamoth. If the Crash explodes next to a Seamoth with the player inside, it could destroy the submersible.

The Crash is very fast, and can easily catch up with a poorly equipped player, dealing severe damage to their health and also to their oxygen level.

Data Bank Entry

  1. Impact-sensitive spikes: If the lifeform collides with something at sufficient speed these spikes are impacted, triggering an internal chemical reaction.
  2. Suction snout: Likely adapted to vacuum up small insects and grubs in cave systems.
  3. Chemical storage organ: concentrations of sulfur build up in this organ over time, and can be deployed as an explosive last line of defense during the nesting phase.

Data points to an evolved symbiosis with the crash plant. Hypothesis: the plant evolved to feed on sulfuric compounds secreted by the Crash. Stronger, more protective plants provided superior nesting grounds, which in turn benefited the plant with more nutrients, and the co-operative cycle continued.

Assessment: Avoid or incapacitate

Getting the data

If you use a Stasis Rifle to paralyze the Crash, you can capture its data, just get back out of range before it blows up.
