Peeper
Template:Infobox:Fauna Flora The Peeper is a life form belonging to the fauna category.
A shy passive creature, the Peepers will mostly try to flee from anything, including the player. While they are catchable, their speed allows them to easily outrun a non-equipped player. With the use of a SeaGlide or Stasis Rifle, however, they can be easily captured. The player usually notices them first because of their big, bright yellow eyes.
Cooked Peepers have excellent food properties. For this reason, it's very useful for players in Survival mode and is always worth the catch.
Appearance
The Peeper is a small fish. Its body is mainly a bluish hue. Its head is comprised of a yellow, beak-like mouth in the front, and a pair of large eyes, situating on both sides of the head. The eyes feature large black pupils with a bright yellow sclera and a brown iris. It is also noteworthy that the Peeper's eyes have eyelids.
It has a small caudal fin. There are three holes running along on each side of the body that resemble gills. It has two tube-like organs that extend from its body to the top and the bottom of its head, resembling backward-facing jets propelling it forward, and leaving water trails (visible at night) when it does so.
The Peepers can be heard making chirp-like noises when the player approaches them.
Behavior
The Peeper is mostly active during the day, often seen jumping out of the water. At night, it seems to rest more.
Peepers can be seen being chased by Stalkers; it's also the latter's favorite food.
Uses in Crafting
Data Bank Entry
- Overdeveloped, side-mounted eyes: Well-adapted to recognize and flee its many predators. Also rich in protein.
- Powerful tail fin: Enables rapid acceleration, and the ability to leap meters out of the water.
- Narrow dorsal fins: Enhance maneuverability
Reliance on visually identifying predators may leave it vulnerable in low-light environments.
Assessment: Edible and substantial - if you can catch it
