The player can scan the Unusual Doll, allowing them to create one using the Habitat Builder in their base. The Doll is intended to be an Easter Egg, being a small bobblehead of famous YouTuber Markiplier, whose "Let's Play" series of Subnautica contributed greatly to the game's success during its Early Access period. When interacted with, the Doll's head will bobble and a short, high-pitched clip will play. The clip played can be either a variation of Markiplier screaming, the introduction to one of his Subnautica episodes, or his outro music, Crazy La Paint.

Trivia

  • An Unusual Doll was originally intended to be distributed via code, however the developers were unable to get in contact with Markiplier. Instead, since Markiplier was under the assumption that the Doll was already somewhere on the map, the developers placed it in a Lifepod.
    • The Doll was added to the world shortly before Markiplier's seventieth episode; he went on a short hiatus from the series shortly afterwards.[1]
    • Markiplier finds the doll in Episode 72, aptly titled 'I'M IN THE GAME!!'[2]
  • An Unusual Doll is one of a handful of items referencing popular YouTubers, with the others being Giveaway Items. The Doll remains the only YouTuber-related item found in the main game.
    • One of the Giveaway Items is a variant of An Unusual Doll that sports glasses and a pink mustache.
  • The former name for An Unusual Doll was the Markiplier Doll.
  • It is not unlocked by default in Creative Mode; it must be found in the game world and scanned before it can be constructed.

Bugs

This section contains bugs related to An Unusual Doll. Make sure to only post reproducible bugs, and use appropriate system template ( XboxLogo.png, PlaystationLogo.png, Nintendo-switch-icon, WindowsLogo.png / AppleLogo.png ) depending on which platform(s) the bug has been encountered on.

  • WindowsLogo.png The Unusual Doll counts as a scannable item when constructed, and as it has already been discovered, will disappear and grant the player two Titanium. Since its construction materials are one Titanium and one Glass, building and then scanning an Unusual Doll effectively allows the player to turn two Quartz into one Titanium.
