Appearance

Research Base Zero is a large installation composed of both standard Seabase parts, as well as specialized parts made only for the base. These specialized parts include rectangular rooms similar to, but much larger than the Moonpool, as well as a series of stairs used to reach ground level. Multipurpose Rooms are used to create the bedrooms of each crew member.

Interior

Robin Goodall's Room

Robin Goodall's room is basic Multipurpose Room with a bed and some decorations. It features an aquarium with some fish from Subnautica, as well as plant pots growing land plants such as a Ming Plant, a Bulbo Tree, and a Grub Basket. Robin's room also contains various pictures, including one of a Trivalve, Robin with several Pengwings and Penglings, and one of a Titan Holefish. Finally, the room contains a cabinet with a pair of dive suits and a PDA by the bed.

Break Room

Through a bulkhead out of Robin's room lies the Break Room. It is a Large Room with several tables, chairs, and a few benches. It also features a bar area with a Coffee Vending Machine and a Vending Machine. The room also has a Water Filtration Machine by the bar and several placeholder posters. Finally, the room has two windows and six total exits.

Jo Jeffreys' Room

Jo Jeffreys' room is similar to Robin's in that it is a Multipurpose Room with a bed in it. However, it is more barren compared to her room. It has two pictures: one of a kitty saying "Keep Calm" and one of concept art of several Below Zero characters, including Jo Jeffreys and Robin Goodall. The room also features a cabinet with only one divesuit - one is missing - and a Locker full of what appear to be vehicle upgrade modules. On the bed lies a PDA.

Laboratory

The Laboratory is a Large Room that features a great many scientific instruments. The west side of the room has many empty shelves and Counters, as well as an Aquarium of Subnautica fish. Towards the center of the room is a Specimen Analyzer, which was cut content from Subnautica. The room also has a large Bioreactor, many sample containers, a Modification Station, and some Lab Equipment, as well as one window.

Cargo Room

The Cargo Room is a small Multipurpose Room filled with crates and shelves. The room is mostly empty of anything notable, save for a PDA on one of the crates.

Greenhouse

The Greenhouse is a Large Room filled with plants and botanical equipment. It has a Glass Dome roof, which is not yet available to be built on Large Rooms but may be possible in the future. The room has four Lantern Trees growing in Indoor Growbeds, one in each quadrant of the room, and many Wall Planters, Plant Shelves, and Plant Pots growing Marblemelon Plants. It also features a Counter on which there is a miniature version of the Indoor Growbed, and a Locker containing a [https://subnautica.fandom.com/wiki/Marblemelon Marblemelon and a Lantern Fruit.

Story

The story begins inside Research Base Zero with Robin waking up to the sound of their alarm clock going off, signalling the start of their work day. The story directs the player to Alien Research Site Zero, and upon returning, she is faced with an avalanche as a result of violent weather. The base is overtaken by snow and is no longer be accessible for the remainder of the game.

<tabber> Profile: Research Base Zero=

Welcome to your home away from home on 4546B. This pamphlet will guide you through your new accommodation.

Get Your Bearings:
Zero sector is comprised of 2 square kilometers of ocean, located near the planet's equator. Unusual environmental conditions leave this area in almost permanent winter, interrupted by extreme weather events. For unknown reasons it was selected by the aliens as a hub for their installations. Life in the area has flourished since the release of enzyme 42 into the larger ecosystem.

Research Station Zero:
You have been posted to the main sector base, located on a large ice cap in the west, just below the primary alien research site. From here you will conduct research into alien communications and technologies, and conduct away missions to unmanned installations elsewhere in the sector.

Facilities:

  • 3-6 person accommodation
  • Full science and engineering section
  • Leisure and exercise facilities
  • Large growroom and water filtration unit for self-sufficient living
  • Weather forecasting suite
  • Prawn bay

Please rate your operation's performance in your own words:
We drilled an ice tunnel to encourage a flock of penglings to surface near the habitat, where we've been recording their behaviour; and accessed a frozen over facility, interpreted the symbols on an alien control panel, and hot-wired it to accept Alterra frequencies. I think we deserve a C+.

Please rate your satisfaction with Alterra support:
I give it a D. It'd be lower, but my sister's carrying the rest of you.

Please describe your planned steps for self-improvement:
I'm going to bed.
