The schematic indicates the weapon was to be powered by a separate, self-sustaining power plant, located elsewhere on the planet. The location is not listed, but there is evidence the designers intended to harness the planet's natural thermal energy.

The Precursor Thermal Power Generator is the smallest of the four Precursor Bases and will be found in the Inactive Lava Zone, within the Lava Castle. It was built around one thousand years ago.

The generator seems to be the source of power for most of the Precursor technology on the planet.

The power is transferred by means of the precursor cables that can be seen all around the exterior of the Precursor Bases. While these cables seem to be used for structural support it is implied that they are also used to transfer power from the Precursor Thermal Power Generator to the other bases. Evidence to suggest this includes the fact that the cables lead from the power storage cubes along side the Precursor Array into the base itself and since the cables are the only thing connecting the battery to the base then it must be transferring power. Another piece of evidence to suggest this is that there is a cable running from the base and through the Mountain Island caves leading to the Precursor Teleporter stationed in the cavern chamber, along the way the cable also goes through lighting fixtures seeming to power them. If these cables were only designed for structural support then it wouldn't make sense for them to be running through a cave on land. It was also stated by developer Cory Strader that the cables are "multi-purpose" and that the cable leading through the mountain island caves is most certainly a power cable.

Data Bank Entry

This system converts thermal energy to electric current at 90% efficiency. Some of this energy is chemically stored onsite, while unknown mechanisms appear to be transferring most of it to remote locations elsewhere on the planet:

30% Stored for emergency use
30% Ground-to-air Weapon System
22% Primary Research Facility
11% Secondary Bio-Research Facility
7% Self-Warping Quarantine Enforcer Units

The system appears to be fully automated and - given current understanding of the mechanisms involved - uninterruptible.

Facility locations have been downloaded to individual memory cards to generate HUD-mounted signals.

Future Plans

  • Drillable Ion crystals will be found in this base.[1]
  • The thermal generator itself will be scannable to reveal the log seen above.
  • Signal for "Alien Thermal Plant".
