This article contains information that is updated for the latest Experimental Version of Subnautica. Players using stable mode may find this information inaccurate.

The Secondary Bio-Research Facility is a Precursor Base in the Lost River that was built around one thousand years ago, some time before the imprisonment of the Sea Emperor in the Primary Research Facility. Here creatures were infected with the Carar bacterium. Surviving specimens were then sent to the Primary Research Facility for further testing in order to synthesize an antidote for the Carar bacterium.

It will be the point in the story where the player is revealed to be infected with Carar and seen developping the first outward symptoms (this in the form of a small animation where the player will observe their arms and hands being covered in Carar cysts).

This precursor base is extremely damaged and will be completely filled with water, lying on the floor as the cables that would have been suspended from were destroyed in an attack by an escaped Sea Dragon Leviathan - an event that also unleashed the Carar bacterium into the native ecosystem and prompted the Precursors to initiate their planetary quarantine by activating their Precursor Ground-To-Air Weapon System.

Part of the reason why the the Secondary Bio-Research Facility is where it's located is to study the skeleton in the Bones Field of the Lost River - the remains of a creature stated to be either a Sea Dragon Leviathan of sorts or a close genetic cousin of it.

Trivia

  • The Secondary Bio-Research Facility, along with the Primary Bio-Research Facility, held a total of 315 specimens - all of which were eliminated as a security precaution, safe for the Sea Emperor in the Aquarium.
  • The Facility held 7 personnel total.
