The Aurora is a habitation ship sent to the planet for a terraforming mission before colony ships arrive. However, during its descent, the Aurora was struck by a mysterious energy pulse resulting in catastrophic hull failure, leading to its crash landing on the surface of the planet. A single escape pod was launched before impact, which contained the unconscious player character. The ship's wreckage is surrounded by harmful radiation.

The energy pulse impact and the following crash also resulted in large quantities of scrap metal, fragments, and a few supply crates falling off and being dispersed in the vicinity of the ship.

The developers are currently working on making the wreckage of the ship explorable, as can be seen here. The wreckage will be explorable with the upcoming update, which will be published in the beginning of April. As of 15915 (4/3/2015), there is a hidden entrance that leads to a large T-shaped corridor in the ship. Although there are doorways on either side of the corridor, they are currently blocked by rubble. There is also a downwards slope that leads you to the generator room. Inside the generator room is a hidden exit from the ship. The exit is hidden underwater.

Inside the generator room lie four large generator. They are connected by catwalks, though some are underwater and heavily damaged. On the generators are breaches resembling hull breaches which can also be repaired using the Welder. Currently, repairing the breaches don't seem to do anything.

To explore the ship, the player needs to either use cheats or craft a radiation suit, which is currently only available in the experimental build of the game.

The devs plan on adding an exosuit fragment to the Aurora[1]. It's possible that this will be the only fragment available to players.

There is an area near the tail end of the Aurora known as the Scrapyards. It is a long, flat stretch of sand littered with huge amounts of scrap metal and salt. It can be very useful for players needing materials for food or titanium.
