Characteristics
Obtained from Tree Mushrooms
Biome/s Caves, Grassy Plateaus, Mountain Range Caves, Mushroom Forest
Inventory Slots 1

The Fungal Sample is a raw material that can be obtained from the Tree Mushrooms in Mushroom Forests. The PDA description states that the sample contains fungal enzymes.

The player can break off the "Mushroom Cap" of Coral Trees to obtain Fungal Samples, by hitting them with the knife or by direct collision with the Seamoth or Cyclops, causing them to break and slowly drift to the ground. One "Mushroom Cap" yields about 2 to 14 Fungal Samples, depending on the size.

Fungal Samples are a rare drop from Table Coral. The player will need to use a knife in order to harvest these. As the drop rate is quite low, table coral are an inefficient source of Fungal Samples if one is looking for them specifically.

Jelly Plants, when broken, drop a small amount of Fungal Samples along with Coral Samples. This is the only method to obtain Fungal Samples through farming.
