The Standard 2-Berth Emergency Lifepod is the player's current starting location. It is the only one that withstood the crash of the Aurora. Its frame identifies it as Lifepod 5.
The player can get in and out through the top or bottom, by using either the ladder or the bulkhead in the floor.
The internals appear to be damaged and smoldering. Some of the damage can be repaired using the Welder but has no gameplay effect currently.
It houses a Fabricator and this will be visited often in the early stages of the game. It also contains a small amount of storage that houses a random collection of equipment and resources at the beginning of the game.
The Escape Pod can also be moved around by pushing it while swimming or with a vehicle.
A non-functioning Fire Extinguisher lies on the Escape Pod's floor. It can be seen falling from its hook during the intro senquence.
A currently static First Aid Kit is mounted near the Fire Extinguisher's hook. Currently, however, it is empty.
During the intro sequence, the player is inside the Escape Pod escaping from the Aurora.
A panel can be seen in the intro sequence flying off the wall of the Escape Pod, exposing wires, and slamming into the player's face, knocking them out in the beginning of the game.
Energy Usage
Energy is provided to the Escape Pod by three Self-Charging Power Cells on the bulkhead. The Fabricator will drain energy from the power cells when used.
The Escape Pod does not require energy to operate the fabricator in Freedom Mode.

Trivia
- The Escape Pod has two seats, indicating that whoever was supposed to take the second seat didn't make it to the Escape Pod on time.
- The Fabricator inside the Escape Pod can be destroyed with a Survival Knife, but will reappear when the game is saved and reloaded.
- The various equipment on the Escape Pod has Alterra markings, meaning the Escape Pod has been designed or built by the Alterra Corporation. Similar markings can be found on some tools in the game Natural Selection 2, which was also developed by Unknown Worlds Entertainment.
