Stalker Tooth

The Stalker Tooth is a raw material dropped by Stalkers under special conditions.

When the Stalker sees metal salvage, it will approach the object and try to pick it up. When this happens, the creature will sometimes leave behind a single tooth.

A good tactic to obtain Stalkers' teeth is to tease them with the Seamoth. There is a high probability that the Stalker will attack the submersible and drop a tooth.

Another method is to distract the creature by using Peepers, as after being fed with the fishes, the Stalker will start searching for metal salvage in the area, and bring it to the player, dropping a tooth in the process.

It is not possible to obtain Stalker Teeth by killing them.

Extended analysis of Stalker dental samples has been completed.

In other local lifeforms tooth composition follows a familiar biological process whereby a calcified structure is grown in the gum.

Stalker teeth are unique in exhibiting extraordinary lightness and strength, and containing only trace amounts of calcium. They gain their structural integrity from a titanium/iron compound somehow produced in the Stalker's body.

This suggests some possible explanations for the creature's metal-gathering behavior, but raises more questions:

By what process can the stalker convert raw metals into dental structure?
What explains this seemingly costly evolutionary adaptation? An armored opponent? A calcium shortage?

Assessment: More research required.
