Seamoth (01).jpg

The Seamoth is the smallest submarine-type Vehicle, and is also the second fastest of the vehicles with its top Speed of 25 Knots or 12.7 m/s (46 km/h). It can also break Tree Mushroom Samples and Treespawns when smashing into them, though doing this will damage the Seamoth a little if the proper upgrades are not installed.

Overview

Upon entering the Seamoth, the player's Oxygen stores will be replenished. This enables the player to dive into deeper areas of the ocean that are not easily accessible by swimming or by using the SeaGlide.

The Seamoth has an Energy supply that needs to be maintained by replacing the Power Cell on its back. Alternatively the Seamoth can be charged when docked to the Cyclops or to a Moon Pool. Doing so will drain energy from the respective unit. On one full charge, the Seamoth can travel approximately 10650 meters (106.5m per percentage of energy) before the power cell must be replaced. 1% of the submersible's energy is expended for every 18 seconds that the player remains in the vehicle, even if the player is not in motion during that time.

Its health, which is separate from the player's own, can decrease if it is attacked by hostile Creatures or crashed into objects (including some plants) in the environment. This damage can be repaired via the Welder tool, if the player has one. As of the Seamoth Update, once its health bar reaches 0%, the Seamoth will explode into several pieces.[1]

Influence of Depth

Note: Currently (June 2015), the developers disabled the Seamoth's crush damage until depth upgrades are implemented.

Note: Currently (August 2015), the developers have reintroduced the Seamoth's crush damage along with the upgrade console and the upgrade modules (ONLY in Experimental mode).

Note: Currently (September 2015) the developers have now introduced the Seamoth's crush damage in regular mode. The depth module and lot's of other upgrades are now available on seamoth also. See Seamoth Upgrade Console for all upgrades.

The Seamoth has a safe Depth of 125 meters, and a crush depth of 225 meters. The on-board AI will state "CAUTION: Passing safe depth" when below 125 meters, and a HUD message will appear with "WARNING: Passing safe depth of 125 meters. Collision will do damage to hull". However, the Seamoth will still take collision damage above 125 meters.

Below 225 meters the on-board AI will state "WARNING: Maximum depth reached, hull damage imminent" , and a HUD message will appear with "WARNING: Approaching crush depth of 225 meters. Hull damage imminent! Ascend ASAP". Below that the Seamoth will take hull damage at a constant rate of about 7% per second.

Influence of Depth with Seamoth Depth Module

Amount of Depth Modules Safe Depth Crush Depth
0 125 meters 225 meters
1 325 meters 425 meters
2 525 meters 625 meters
3 725 meters 825 meters
4 925 meters 1025 meters

Dangers

Currently, the only dangers to the Seamoth are Reaper Leviathans, Bone Sharks, Crashes, and passing the crush depth. The Crashes seem to be the most dangerous, as they can destroy the Seamoth with only one launched Crash.

Recipe

The Seamoth can be constructed by the player using the Mobile Vehicle Bay. However, you will first need to find 5 Seamoth Fragments and scan them with the Scanner. (Note: Scanning progress will be kept in the Blueprints section of the PDA)

Upgrades and Customization

The Seamoth can be customized with the Seamoth Upgrade Console. The console allows the Seamoth to be named and its colours changed. The console also crafts Upgrade Modules for the Seamoth. Up to four of these modules can be applied to the upgrade panel found on the Seamoth's left side.

Trivia

  • When the Shocking update was released the Seamoth rarely said "I love it when you come inside me" as opposed to the normal "Welcome aboard Captain" when entering it. This has since been removed.
