Al-An, in response to Robin

Sanctuary Zero is an Alien Base that is located in the Twisty Bridges. It functions as a resting place for the core that houses Al-An's mind, and is where he broadcasts messages from.

Story

Sanctuary Zero is a location that Robin Goodall will visit while searching for her lost colleague, Jo Jeffreys. Having been warned by a broadcast at Alien Research Site Zero, Robin shifts her focus on finding out more about the Almanac. Her investigation will lead her towards the location of Sanctuary Zero. When Robin enters the facility, Al-An traps her inside via a forcefield, claiming that she will reveal his existence to Alterra. Robin eventually finds Al-An's core, and unwittingly downloads Al-An's Consciousness. Al-An threatens Robin, claiming that he will destroy her orbital station, but is unable to do so. Al-An then proceeds to Hibernate, powering down the forcefields and allowing Robin to leave the facility.

Central Cavern

The area leading up to the Cube Room is a large cavern with several bridges, one of which has been destroyed by a large boulder. Water can be seen leaking from the top of the cavern. At the far end of the cavern is a corridor Leading up to the Cube Room.

Cube Room

The Main Feature of the Sanctuary, the Cube room is where Al-An resides. Al-An's core can be seen suspended in mid-air in the center of the chamber. Located at the back of the room is a small ramp leading up to the Consciousness Transfer Device, which allows Robin to download Al-An's Consciousness.

Data Downloads

Sanctuary Zero was discovered some months ago, operating on low power. All attempts to access the facility have failed. It is located in the so-called Twisty Bridges, an area dense with macro-flora, reaching 100m-300m in depth.

The fast growth of the tubular, organic 'bridges' throughout the area prevents a permanent route to the facility from being established. It can be located at a depth of 200m, and contractors are advised to use visual reference to locate a viable path.

The alien architects constructed multiple sanctuary facilities around 4546B. Their purpose was to store and preserve the aliens' mental states for later retrieval in case of emergency. While many individuals fled to these sanctuaries when the kharaa contagion was released, most succumbed before they could reach one. Of those sanctuaries we have gained access to, none have contained a viable alien consciousness, and it is further unclear what sense could be made of the data if they had.
