Its only use is to craft the Test Override Module to deactivate the signal tower on Delta Island which is required to progress with the story.

The blueprint for this item is unlocked by scanning fragments in the Mercury II. It is crafted in the Fabricator.

Trivia

• The Parallel Processing Unit was orignally called the Purple Vents Salvage and the Ship Wreck Salvage and was found exclusively in the Mercury II‘s Detached Thruster and its Rear portion respectively.
  • Additonally, these salvages were originally designed to repair the Alterra Communications Tower to reestablish communications with the Vesper Station.
  • Finally, the Purple Vents Salvage was cut and replaced with an Advanced Wiring Kit to repair the communications tower before the Ship Wreck Salvage was also cut and both were replaced with the Parallel Processing Unit.
