Aerogel are a synthetic porous ultralight material derived from a gel, in which the liquid component of the gel has been replaced with a gas. It's purpose: Heat and fire protection. It’s a refractory material, which can be used in linings for furnaces, kilns, incinerators and reactors. They are also used to make crucibles.
