It is normal when first piloting a Prawn suit to feel a sense of limitless power. Prawn operators receive weeks of training to counteract this phenomenon. You will have to make due with self-discipline.

The P.R.A.W.N. Suit (Pressure Re-Active Waterproof Nanosuit) (Mk.III) is a vehicle. It is a powered suit of armor, designed for use in both the deep sea and in space - capable of affording protection to a pilot whilst maintaining maximum dexterity with hydraulic limbs and a reinforced canopy. It is not directly worn; rather, it is a large frame that can be piloted in a seated position.

The Prawn Suit has its own beacon, similar to the Cyclops and Seamoth. Unlike the other vehicles, however, the Prawn Suit walks along the ocean floor, using thrusters to move vertically.

The Prawn Suit's upgrades can be accessed via a panel on its upper left.

A 3D model of the Prawn Suit can be found on Sketchfab.

Overview

The Prawn Suit can be used to explore dark and/or deep places. The Prawn Suit has a base crush depth of 900 meters and a fully upgraded crush depth of 1700 meters, making it the best deep exploration vehicle. However, due to its limited vertical mobility, it may be wise to use a Cyclops to transport the Suit, as certain biomes such as the Blood Kelp Zone or Underwater Islands may be difficult for it to get out of on its own.

Upon entering the Prawn Suit, the player's oxygen stores will be replenished - unless the Prawn Suit is depleted of energy, as is the case with the Seamoth and the Cyclops. In this case, the oxygen will slowly run out until the point where the player is losing oxygen within the Prawn Suit itself.

The Prawn Suit has a health meter - reaching zero will cause the Prawn Suit to malfunction catastrophically and explode. Unlike the Seamoth however, the Prawn Suit is heavily armored and can endure most things that would otherwise severely damage or destroy a Seamoth, such as a Reaper Leviathan's grip.

Four Prawn Suit fragments can be found in the Aurora's Prawn Bay, and in various Wrecks. The Aurora's fragments count for 25% of a blueprint, whereas wreck fragments (not including arm upgrades) count for 5%.

Alternatively, the Prawn Suit can be used on land for exploration of dangerous areas. (Keep in mind that the Prawn Suit is not as mobile on land. The thrusters are nearly useless, even if you have the Prawn Suit Jump Jet Upgrade.) As the suit is immune to heat and poison (though not direct contact with lava), the Prawn Suit is also great for collecting resources in hazardous areas such as near Lava Geysers, or collecting Gas Pods, or for simple protection against most low-to-mid tier predators.

The Prawn Suit requires Energy from two Power Cells to operate. The Prawn Suit can be docked at a Cyclops or a Moonpool to recharge.

The Prawn Suit comes equipped with a 6x4 inventory space by default without upgrades, accessed from outside in the rear. Any items picked up with the claw arm are automatically placed in the Suit's inventory if there is room. Bear in mind though that there is a slight delay between clicking and activating the respective claw arm on the suit, so a player may accidentally punch a creature they are trying to collect, or miss a falling item.

How to Use

  • LMB and RMB to use the arms. LMB for the left arm, and RMB for the right arm.
  • SPACE for jump, hold for the thrusters. Using the thrusters will deplete their internal energy, which recharges by itself when not using them.

Upgrades and Customization

The Prawn Suit can be customized with the Vehicle Modification Station. The console will allow the Prawn Suit to be named and its colors to be changed.

The Prawn Suit has four slots for upgrades, like the Cyclops and Seamoth. In addition, it has two slots for arm upgrades, which can be identified by their purple color.

Many of the Seamoth's upgrades are cross-compatible with the Prawn Suit, such as Storage Modules and Pressure Compensators.

Pressure Compensator

Influence of Depth
Pressure Compensator Crush Depth
None 900 meters
Pressure Compensator MK1 1050 meters
Pressure Compensator MK2 1300 meters
Pressure Compensator MK3 1700 meters
Seamoth Storage Solution.png

Storage Module

The Prawn Suit has a 6x4 storage compartment on the top of it, located at the back, which can be increased to 6x5 with one Storage Module, 6x6 with two, 6x7 with three and 6x8 with four. Materials can be picked up from the seabed and be grabbed by the Prawn Suit, which will transfer it into the storage.

Seamoth Power Efficiency Module.png

Engine Efficiency Module

The Engine Efficiency Module recycles heat by-product to minimize power inefficiencies. Each module reduces power use by 15%.

Exosuit Thermal Reactor Module.png

Prawn Suit Thermal Reactor

The Prawn Suit Thermal Reactor is an upgrade for the Prawn Suit that generates power in areas that are 15 degrees Celsius or higher.

Exosuit Jet Jump Upgrade.png

Prawn Suit Jump Jet Upgrade

The Prawn Suit Jump Jet Upgrade is an upgrade module for the Prawn Suit. when equipped it greatly increases the power of the thrusters, giving faster acceleration and a much higher boost.

Prawn Suit Claw Arm

Equipped as the standard arm on the Prawn Suit, this arm is quite versatile. It can both pick up things and administer a quick strike, useful for smashing rocks for resources.

Drillarm.png

Prawn Suit Drill Arm

Allows for drilling of large resource deposits. Once drilled, these deposits break down into pieces that can be picked up.

Grapplingarm.png

Prawn Suit Grappling Arm

The Prawn Suit Grappling Arm upgrade allows the player to fire a grapple. This grapple can attach to large, anchored geometry, allowing the player to pull themselves towards it. Alternatively, it can attach to small to large creatures, items, and so on.

Propulsionarm.png

Prawn Suit Propulsion Cannon

Functions the same as the Propulsion Cannon tool, except as an arm, it can lift heavier items. Additionally, it's now possible to load items into the Propulsion Cannon tool or arm.

Torpedoarm.png

Prawn Suit Torpedo Arm

Storing up to four torpedoes at a time, this upgrade works just like the Seamoth Torpedo launcher. It uses the same torpedoes as the Seamoth, as well:

Data Bank Entry

The Pressure Re-Active Waterproof Nano Suit is a range of mechs designed to protect the pilot from extreme environments. The Mk.III is the latest iteration, and has so far only been rolled out by Alterra for their own high-value, phasegate-related operations.

  • The suit is fully insulated from the outside environment
  • Powerful hydraulic limbs allow for manipulation of objects and powered traversal of the environment
  • Rear-mounted thrusters provide maneuverability in low-gravity environments
  • A range of modifications are available to facilitate resource extraction and enhanced exploration

Trivia

  • The former name for the Prawn Suit was the Exosuit.
  • The idea for the Prawn Suit may be taken from the Exosuit from Natural Selection 2, another game made by Unknown Worlds Entertainment.
  • Early animations for the Prawn Suit can be viewed here and here.
  • Future versions of the Prawn Suit may be able to 'sit' as seen on the Trello card here.
