Carrying multiple oxygen tanks will increase your survivable exposure time in hostile environments.
― PDA, Dialogue

The Standard O2 Tank is a crafted piece of Equipment which boosts the player's Oxygen supply by 30 units. The player has an equipment slot just for the Standard O2 Tank, freeing up space in their Inventory.
It can be upgraded into the High Capacity O₂ Tank at the Fabricator, which can be further upgraded into the Lightweight High Capacity Tank and the Ultra High Capacity Tank at the Modification Station.
