"While the seamoth submersible is a fast, safe mode of transport, try to continue to meet your recommended weekly exercise quotient. Swimming is fantastic for your glutes and endorphin levels."

Due to the fact that it can be customized with a Moon Pool and a Vehicle Modification Station, the Seamoth is very versatile. The Seamoth can be constructed by the player using the Mobile Vehicle Bay. However, you will first need to find and scan 3 Seamoth Fragments using the Scanner.

Overview

Upon entering the Seamoth, the player's Oxygen stores will be replenished, unless the Seamoth is depleted of Energy. If this is the case, the oxygen will slowly run out, until the point where the player is losing oxygen within the Seamoth.[1] This enables the player to dive into deeper areas of the ocean that are not easily accessible by swimming or by using the Seaglide.

The Seamoth has an energy supply that needs to be maintained by replacing the Power Cell on its back. Alternatively, the Seamoth can be charged when docked to the Cyclops or to a Moon Pool. Doing so will drain energy from the respective unit. On one full charge, the Seamoth can travel approximately 10,650 meters (106.5m per percentage of energy) before the power cell must be replaced. 1% of the submersible's energy is expended for every 18 seconds that the player remains in the vehicle, even if the player is not in motion during that time.

The Seamoth's health, separated from the player's own, will decrease if it is attacked by hostile creatures or crashed into objects (including some plants) in the environment. The damage can be repaired via the Welder Tool, if the player has one. As of the Seamoth Update, once its health reaches 0%, the Seamoth will explode.[2]

The Seamoth's headlights can be toggled with the right mouse button on PC.

Upon entering the Seamoth, it says "Welcome Aboard Captain."

Hazards

The Seamoth can be harmed or destroyed by colliding with the terrain and by surpassing the crush depth limit. Also Fauna like Reaper Leviathans, Bone Sharks, Crashfishes, Crab Snakes and Drooping Stingers can all be considered serious threats towards the submersible.

Thrust

The Seamoth produces enough forward thrust to travel at a maximum speed of about 12.7 m/s, and enough lateral thrust to travel at about 11.3 m/s. By rotating the Seamoth diagonally off-course and thrusting both forward and laterally, speeds close to 17 m/s can be attained.

While useful, this method of travel can be hazardous, since the player's field of view will be reduced in the direction of travel.

It is important to keep in mind that the Seamoth will not lose momentum when the player exits, and the player will be placed in front of the vehicle - at top speed, this can easily kill the player. Always come to a complete stop before exiting.

Upgrades and Customization

The Seamoth can be customized with the Vehicle Modification Station. The console allows the Seamoth to be named and its colours changed. The console also crafts upgrade modules for the Seamoth. Up to four of these modules can be applied to the upgrade panel found on the Seamoth's left wing.

Pressure Compensator

The Seamoth has a crush depth of 200 meters. 20 Meters before the player reaches the crush depth a warning will appear letting the player know that it is approaching. Below 200 meters the on-board AI will state:

"WARNING: Maximum depth reached, hull damage imminent".

At that depth the Seamoth will take hull damage at a constant rate of about 7% per second.

It is possible to increase the Seamoth's crush depth adding Pressure Compensator upgrade. These upgrades do not stack and can be further upgraded by Modification Station.

Influence of Depth
Pressure Compensator Crush Depth
None 200 meters
Pressure Compensator MK1 300 meters
Pressure Compensator MK2 500 meters
Pressure Compensator MK3 900 meters

Seamoth Description

The seamoth is a one-person submersible with an independent, replaceable power cell and a fully customizable design. Most long-range mining vessels carry at least two submersibles of this class to facilitate the exploration and exploitation of water-bearing planetoids.

Ratings:

  • Top Speed: 13m/s
  • Acceleration: 5m/s/s
  • Distance per power cell: 10km
  • Crush depth: 200m below sea level
  • Upgrade module slots: 4
  • Dimensions: 3m x 1.5m x 1m
  • Persons: 1

Seamoths may be modified by installing upgrade modules to the access point mounted by default on the upper left wing. These include:

  • Increased cargo storage
  • Superior power
  • Pressure and collision compensation
  • Enhanced sonar
  • Defensive capabilities

NB These modules may only be manufactured at an appropriately outfitted Moonpool.

Trivia

  • The old Seamoth Pressure Compensator has the same crush depth of a Cyclops Ultra Hull Reinforcement Module. However, it is now unobtainable, having been replaced by the Pressure Compensator, and cannot be upgraded. If a player has one, it is considered a separate item from the Pressure Compensator.
  • The Seamoth's AI used to occasionally say "I love it when you come inside me" instead of "Welcome aboard, Captain." This was a joke slipped in by the AI's voice actor without permission from Unknown Worlds Entertainment. Upon Cory Strader discovering this line, he immediately removed it as he knew a lot of minors and families played Subnautica.
