Supply crates are containers dropped during the crash landing of the Colony Ship that contain random high-level items, including crafted items.
The supply crate supports 5x5 item slots, which is a total of 25 slots. It is very light-weight and can easily be pushed around in the water. One of the edges of the supply crate features an electronic display that reads "Container" on it.
Currently, there are only two locations known to exist where these containers can be found. Both of them spawn near the engine part of the Colony Ship, one in an area littered with scrap metal, one close by in a small rift towards the North.
