Weather is a game mechanic that will affect temperature and may affect power output for Solar Panels.[1] Each weather type will have a different effect in gameplay. Currently, they have no effect other than visually.

Calm weather has no falling effects and the skies are partially cloudy.

Clear Skies

Clear skies is identical to the calm weather type, however it has been confirmed to have been cut.[2]

Electric Storm

In an electric storm, there is a partial layer of snowy fog that impairs vision. There are also frequent lightning strikes and thunder all around the player.

Heavy Fog

Heavy fog adds a layer of snowy fog to the world. It does not currently appear to be stronger than the other weather types that add fog.

Protection & Monitoring

The current weather and future forecast will be viewable when using a Control Room. Players will be able to avoid the negative effects of weather by hiding in caves[3] or in a Seabase. The effects of weather may also be lessened by going underwater.

Trivia

  • Weather was originally planned and worked on during the development of Subnautica such as rain for example, however it was scrapped after alterations to the skybox.
  • Previously, weather was meant to be monitored using the Weather Station, however it was later scrapped[4] and its weather-monitoring function was given to the Control Room.
