</group> </infobox> The Glow Whale (Placeholder name) is a future fauna species of Subnautica: Below Zero.

Appearance

The Glow Whale is huge and whale-like in form, ending with a pair of extending membranes for the flukes. Its eyes have a yellow iris and a large black pupil, sporting two bioluminescent organ right in front of each. On top of them are two translucent, glowing blue protrusions.

Its body also shows clear signs of countershading, with the dorsal side being gray and the ventral side being light blue. On the dorsal side, well defined ridges are visible. These run along the sides of its body from the head to the lower back, which is covered in white spots. On the ventral side, there is a pair of small fins. Barnacles and vegetation seem to thrive on various parts of the creature's body.

On either side of the Glow Whale, two large, sail-like flippers extend diagonally outwards. Each flipper is made of a narrow muscular protrusion connected to a thin, but wide bioluminescent membrane, at the tip of which situates a glowing pod.

Design

The Glow Whale appears to have convergently evolved with the baleen whales of Earth, sharing a very similar morphology and feeding behaviour though it lacks baleen plates entirely. The spotted and ridged back of the Glow Whale is extremely similar in appearance to the backs of whale sharks, the largest fish on Earth.

• It was designed by Pat Presley during pre-production for Subnautica but was never implemented. It has since been repurposed for Below Zero.
