Radiation is a damaging effect that surrounds the Aurora. Once the player enters the radiation zone, a warning will appear on the HUD and the noise of a Geiger counter can be heard. As the player gets closer to the ship the screen will become fuzzy. However the player can craft a Radiation Suit using two Lead and two Silicone which will protect against radiation.

Explosion

After the Explosion

After the explosion of the Aurora, radiation will leak from the drive core and spread to a set distance (about 420m) around Aurora after the explosion. The radiation zone will then cover large parts of the game world and also put the eastern edge of the spawn zone in safe shallows into the radiation, which catches a few of the life pod spawns. At this point, if the player don't have a Radiation Suit yet, it will be very difficult for the player to return to the Escape Pod alive.

The radiation zone will stay at this range until the player repair the leaks in the generator room with the Welder [1]. The welding seals will last for 3 days before it have to be sealed up again to prevent additional new leakage.
