The Sunbeam was a passing Alterran cargo ship captained by Avery Quinn that picked up the distress signal sent by the Aurora.

The Sunbeam's Failed Rescue

The Sunbeam had planned to land on the Mountain Island to rescue the player. However, before it is able to land, the Precursor Array fires a pulse at it, as the Sunbeam is considerably smaller than the Aurora, It is completely obliterated and all of its crew members killed.
