Template:Class 1 Fauna The Sea Dragon Leviathan, more commonly known as the Sea Dragon, is a colossal life form belonging to the fauna category. It is also the largest aggressive creature of Subnautica.

The Sea Dragon Leviathan is still under development and has yet to be added into the official game, although it can now be spawned in experimental mode.

After one was captured by the Precursors, it broke out of the Secondary Bio-Research Facility, resulting in the base's demise and release of the Carar onto Planet 4546B.

Appearance

The Sea Dragon Leviathan's body mostly resembles the Sea Emperor, albeit slightly smaller, slimmer in design, and is dark green in color, along with purple accents on its limbs and head. Many of its body parts are adorned or spotted with orange bioluminescent glows, and many small spikes line its lower jaw and arms.

The head of the creature is stout and reptilian, possessing two pairs of glowing orange eyes with white pupils. The mouth contains sharp teeth, visible even when the mouth is closed. The tip of the snout features two short protrusions with orange glowing tips. It also has a second set of larger fin-like protrusions under its lower jaw.

Along the side of its body runs two long, dotted trails that emit bioluminescent glows. Its rear-side consists of seven tentacles ending with small tentacular clubs, with the largest being surrounded by the other smaller ones.

The Sea Dragon's forelimbs are long, having large webbed hands consisting of four fingers as well as a pair of extra digits behind the forearms, with sharp claws for each finger. There are two fin-like extension on its head as well as a single dorsal fin.

Behavior

The Sea Dragon Leviathan uses its arms and tentacles to swim in the water. It will attack the player with its arms if they are on either side of its front body by swatting them away. However, the swat does not harm the player, simply knocking them away.

If the Sea Dragon Leviathan attacks the player with its mouth, it will instantly proceed to swallow and kill them immediately.

Occasionally the Sea Dragon Leviathan will open its mouth wide and fire a rock at its target as a projectile attack.

The Sea Dragon Leviathan will grab the Seamoth with its hands, and shove it inside its mouth, doing 5% damage per second. The Sea Dragon Leviathan will sometimes release and throw the Seamoth after swimming around with it for a while, often leaving it below 20% health, instead of completely destroying it.

The Sea Dragon Leviathan will attack the Cyclops by pushing it around with considerable force, often leaving the Cyclops upside down. It can't damage the Cyclops currently, it can only push it around.

Data Bank Entry

A colossal aquatic species, well-adapted to volcanic environments.

  • Scanned specimen measured 70m long
  • The only leviathan specimen encountered on 4546B with true forearms suggests genetic divergence occurred long ago
  • Forearms used for both propulsion and defense
  • Extreme adaptation to high temperature environments, the sea dragon can launch magma projectiles when its prey attempts to flee

Future Plans

  • The Sea Dragon Leviathan is expected to spawn in the Inactive Lava Zone and Active Lava Zone once implemented[1].
  • The finished Sea Dragon Leviathan may be capable of inhaling the player and breathing fire.
  • The Sea Dragon Leviathan will spawn outside of the map borders.
  • The PRAWN Suit will be used to combat the Sea Dragon Leviathan.

Trivia

  • While shown in the concept art to be considerably larger than the Sea Emperor, the Sea Dragon Leviathan will be implemented to be smaller than the latter in the future updates.
  • The sounds of the Sea Dragon Leviathan were created by combining real sounds from a bull, an elephant and a tiger.
  • The Skeleton in the Lost River is suggested to be either the corpse of a Sea Dragon Leviathan or a close cousin.
