To acquire the blueprints of a particular item, the player needs to scan its corresponding fragments multiple times. The amount of times scanning is required varies based on the object. It takes about ten seconds to finish scanning. The Scanner is also able to scan Life Forms and Harvesting Nodes, doing so will add its specific entry into the PDA.

- The Scanner replaced the Fragment Analyzer in the game, which was originally the only way of analyzing fragments.
- Currently, the Scanner cannot scan some life forms, but will most likely be updated accordingly in the future. It will also be able to scan precursor structures[1].
