Template:Infobox:Fauna Flora The Drooping Stingers is a life form belonging to the flora category, which spawns mainly in caves, where they are attached to the ceiling.

It can also be found hanging in the south west Kelp Forest blocking small cave openings.

It is highly recommended not to touch/get close to the stingers, as they can severely harm or even kill the player with one strike.

There are two pieces to a Stinger attack. When the player first comes in contact with one, he/she will take a shocking 25-50 points damage. Then, over the next few seconds, the player will take an additional 15-25 points of damage.

This 40-75 damage is one of the most powerful single-strike attacks in the current game, second only to the Reaper Leviathan .

Appearance

The Drooping Stingers resembles a real life cnidarian, with its entire body made of gelatinous, translucent substances, giving off a bright violet bioluminescent glow.

Its main body sports an umbrela-like base from which drops out a spiked spiral-shaped tendril downwards.

Zero photosynthetic cells detected. Implies carnivorous adaptation to low-light environments.
Follicles along the tentacles capable of detecting contact with foreign bodies, triggering an electromagnetic charge in the 600 watt range. Prey is likely paralyzed and consumed over many weeks.

Trivia

The Drooping Stingers were officially announced on the Subnautica website. The concept art was done by Cory Strader.
It is mentioned on the PDA that it uses electrical charges offensively/defensively, instead of using venomous stingers - a trait shared by many real life cnidarians.
