Jochi Khasar (IPA: /ˈjɔki kəˈsɑɹ̠/) was a Mongolian emissary on board the Aurora. His purpose was to assist with the search for Degasi survivors, after the Mongolian spacecraft disappeared almost a decade ago. Khasar escaped from the ship in Lifepod 13. The lifepod failed, and crashed in the Northwestern Mushroom Forest soon after launch. He was likely killed on impact.

Pre-Crash

The Mongolian Independent States held opposing cultural values to Alterra - notably in the prevalence of religion, and lack of synthetic food - which brought Khasar into conflict with the Alterrans on the Aurora. He is depicted arguing with one crew member over their cultural differences. It's implied many Alterrans looked down on him, and Mongolian society overall, for his religious beliefs and smaller trans-gov.

Khasar also reported information on the Degasi crew members in the Degasi Crew Manifest logs.

Post-Crash

Khasar escapes to Lifepod 13 and prays for his survival. The lifepod deploys successfully and enters the planet atmosphere; however, the lifepod's support systems soon fail and external temperatures rise to critical levels. When it becomes clear that he will die, Khasar appears to accept his death, albeit somewhat spitefully, and instead asks for reincarnation,

It is likely Khasar died when his lifepod hit the water.

Trivia

• His name is probably taken from the real-life "Jochi Borjigin", the eldest son of Genghis Khan.
  • "Jochi" (Mongolian: Зүчи) means "Guest" in Mongolian.
• Khasar's log suggests that he is religious and nationalistic - which is a relatively common stereotype of Mongolians.
  • This is further supported by the argument between him and the Aurora crewmember, about the differences between Alterran and Mongolian life. The crewmember thought of Khasar's argument as religious nonsense.
