The Sonar is an Seamoth and in-development Upgrade Module that allow the player to navigate underwater. This is a dedicated system for detecting and displaying geographical data on the HUD. This allows the player to navigate easier at night, find the way out of complex cave systems and detect land masses before crashing in to it. Each sonar ping drain 1% of the Seamoths power for each time it is used. To use it, click the left mouse button. There is a reload time before it can be used again.

It is crafted with the mini-fabricator on the Seamoth Upgrade Console, which are located in the Moon Pool. The module take up one slot in the player's inventory, and have to be placed in the seamoth upgrade panel to work.

Trivia

Sonar (originally an acronym for SOund Navigation And Ranging) is a technique that uses sound propagation to navigate under the surface of the water. Two types of technology share the name "sonar": passive sonar is essentially listening for the sound made by vessels; active sonar is emitting pulses of sounds and listening for echoes, which this module for the seamoth uses.
