Description

The Glacial Basin is a large, empty basin most likely created thousands of years ago by the movement of a long collapsed glacier. A notable feature of the biome is a large ice mountain, which contains a cave where the Snowfox Base resides. Closer to the center of the biome and down some stairs leading from the base is the lake leading to the Glacier, the only way in or out of the Glacial Basin.

The biome has a few caves scattered around it, including a cave where the Frozen Leviathan is located. Serik's Bunker can also be found in this biome, within a small tunnel at the biome's center. A bridge constructed by Alterra in the northeastern side of the basin connects two cliffs together.

The Glacial Basin is composed of four distinct areas:

Basin=

The Glacial Basin

The main section of the Glacial Basin is the exterior portion. It is a very rocky biome surrounded by tall, icy cliffsides. The area is dominated by hills, with many natural hills and bridges, as well as many snaking rivers and a few waterfalls. It also features many surface vents that can propel the player upwards while riding on the Snowfox.

The Basin is the second-largest outdoor section of the map after the Arctic Spires, which it is adjacent to. Also located in the exterior part of the Basin is the Snowfox Base on the southern side, and Serik's Bunker hidden in a cave near the northern side. The larger caves of the Basin all have entrances in this section, generally placed on the northern wall. <tabber> Resources=

|-| Dark Cave=

The Dark Cave

On the Northwest wall of the Glacial Basin is the entrance to the Dark Cave. This cave is nearly pitch black without the use of a Flashlight or Flashlight Helmet. The Dark Cave is void of any Fauna but hosts a large number of Glow Flowers and Heat Fruit Trees, making it a fantastic place to get away from the cold of the Glacial Basin. Its structure is mainly comprised of two levels of cave connected by slopes of ice and snow, with glittering walls of ice. An exit of the cave on the second level will lead the player back outside to the Basin, where they can find a small ridge only negotiable by the Spy Pengling. Several Ore Veins can be found within the cave that contain Silver Ore.

|-| Frozen Leviathan Cave=

The Frozen Leviathan

With two entrances on the northern wall, one located on an elevated part of the Basin, the Frozen Leviathan Cave is the primary influence for players to come to the Glacial Basin. Located beneath sea level, this cave houses the remains of a large land-based leviathan trapped in ice. Evidence of an Alterra Corporation operation lies around the leviathan, with Prawn Suits used to excavate the remains. <tabber> Resources=

|-| Large Ice Cave=

The Large Ice Cave

The Large Ice Cave is a massive cave with two entrances on the northern wall of the Basin. Though empty of any important features, this long cave houses a plethora of different Fauna and Flora, some present in no other area. A long river runs throughout the entirety of the cave, eventually leading to a large underground waterfalls. The roof of the cave is covered in many stalactites, as well as glowing green crystals. <tabber> Resources=
