(Don't edit war, he says,. edit warring. The page needs to describe what the reactor does. Cutting out that the fuel rods have a certain amount of power in them does not help with that.)

In mechanical terms, the Reactor Rods function as both the Reactor's fuel supply and its power storage: each Rod contains 20,000 energy, and adds 625 storage to the Reactor: thus, a Reactor with four Rods can store 2,500 energy. The storage capacity of the rods is filled on a one-at-a-time basis.
The Nuclear Reactor generates energy at a rate of 250 power per minute (4.166667 per second) until all installed Reactor Rods are filled. It will only fill one Reactor Rod at a time. Each Reactor Rod can store a maximum of 625 energy. It takes 150 seconds to fill each rod. A Nuclear Reactor can hold four Reactor Rods, for a total of 2500 energy.

The Reactor operates at a fixed rate of 250 energy per minute (~4.166667 per second) regardless of how many Rods are inserted into it, thus filling one complete Rod of storage every 150 seconds and its entire storage capacity in 10 minutes.
When power is being consumed at the base, the Nuclear Reactor will not drain until all other energy sources are depleted. Once the Reactor Rods are fully consumed, they will leave behind Depleted Reactor Rods. These must be disposed of in a [[Nuclear Waste Disposal]].

Assuming a constant rate of energy drain, a single Reactor Rod will last 80 minutes, but the Rods are only drained if power from the Reactor is being used. When power is being consumed at the base, the Nuclear Reactor's capacity will not drain until all other energy sources are depleted. Once the Reactor Rods are fully consumed, they will turn into Depleted Reactor Rods, at which point they can be removed from the Reactor: they otherwise cannot be removed once inserted. Depleted Reactor Rods can be discarded or stored like any other item, but cannot be deleted by a [[Trash Can]]: to permanently dispose of them, they must be placed in a [[Nuclear Waste Disposal]].

The blueprint for this module is acquired by scanning the Nuclear Reactor in Research Base Omega or the second segment of the Crashed Ship in the Lilypad Islands. It is crafted with the Habitat Builder. (no target detected)

Nuclear Reactor

<poem>Renewable energy sources will usually be sufficient for maintaining a small outpost. For everything else there's nuclear power.

- Powered by up to four replaceable uranium reactor rods
- Do not attempt to replace reactor rods without a full radiation suit
- Do not attempt to overclock the reactor

Nuclear is ideal for energy-intensive operations such as:
- Self-sufficient colonies supporting more than 20 people
- Industrial outposts operating multiple docks and heavy machinery
- Research stations housing live specimens</poem>
