We use the remaining juice to send a distress call and build whatever gear we can, then we find a way to the surface.
― CTO Yu, Lifepod 2 Chief Technical Officer Yu's Voicelog (T+2min)

Chief Technical Officer Yu was one of the crew members on the Aurora. Yu and her friend Berkeley escaped the Aurora in Lifepod 2, which crashed in the Northern Blood Kelp Zone. Yu eventually met up with Second Officer Keen at the Floating Island, but Keen's final log implies she was killed by a Reaper Leviathan while attempting to board the Aurora to repair its Long Range Communication Systems.
Pre-Crash
Prior to the crash, Yu reprogrammed one of Berkeley's assistant drones, causing it to act contrary (retrieving the wrong tool, etc) unless Berkeley speaks to it very respectfully and addresses it by name as Albert. She claims that this made the drone "just like you." Berkeley tells Yu that she wasn't making his job any easier, or safer. Yu simply states that it's all that's stopping her from going mad from boredom, and adds that Alterra might buy the drone's design off her when they get home.
She also leaves message for Technician Hinkle, calling him a corporate stooge, claiming that no matter the codes they install, they'll find a way to joyride the Prawn Suits, adding that if Second Officer Keen tells them that they need to change the codes, they change the codes. She then suggests a code for the robotics bay, claiming the "guys will like that".
A PDA on the Aurora states her birthday as June 18th. It is possible that this was left by Berkeley, as the two appear to be close.
Post-Crash
She and Berkeley escaped into Lifepod 2. However, she says that the flotation devices have failed, although she manages to reconfigure the O₂ system to act as a bilge pump, which in turn is successful. Yu then tells Berkeley that they have stopped sinking and are alive, but they're 500 meters down and the oxygen will run out in 30 minutes. Berkeley asks what they'll do, and she explains that they'll use the remaining energy in the Lifepod to send out a distress call and build what materials they can, and find a way to the surface.
It is assumed that Yu and Berkeley got Keen's meeting point message. However, Berkeley is not present, suggesting his demise, although Yu does not mention him. She states to Keen that they can't be the only ones that survived and they have to go back out. Keen denies, stating that Captain Hollister's orders, and were not the orders he was giving her. Yu angrily states that it wasn't chain of command; it was survival, adding that the more of them there were, the more likelihood of survival. Keen attempts to explain that it was his obligation as acting commander doesn't turn for her convenience, and asks her to get out of the water. Yu simply tells him that if she gets into trouble, she'll send him her coordinates, although Keen reluctantly follows her. Two hours later, Keen returns, and says that the rendezvous was a failure, and to consider Yu and himself lost at sea, implying that she died.
Relationships
Berkeley
Yu and Berkeley have a positive relationship, and despite Yu having a higher position then Berkeley, she treats him as an equal and often teases him. It is possible that the PDA detailing her birthday was written by Berkeley.
The two manage to get into a Lifepod together, although whether this was due to convenience or they happened to be together is unknown.
Upon meeting Second Officer Keen at the Floating Island, Berkeley is not present with Yu, implying he had died or Yu was forced to abandon him.

BERKELEY: Drone, get me a propulsion cannon. [Repulsion cannon retrieved] CTO YU: Hey, Berkeley! Install that circuit box with that repulsion cannon and you'll punch a hole in the cargo bay. BERKELEY: Damnit, drone, I said PRO-pulsion, not RE-pulsion. Recalibrate sensors! [Sensors recalibrated] CTO YU: Sensors aren't the problem. I tweaked the program. It's like you now, it doesn't like being told what to do. BERKELEY: Drone, I know- CTO YU: His name's Albert now. BERKELEY: Albert. I know it's not your fault, but it would really help me do my job if you'd bring me what I asked for. Thanks for your time. [Propulsion cannon retrieved] BERKELEY: Thank you. Now go away. [Entering hibernation mode] BERKELEY: Boss, this hobby of yours ain't making my job any easier. Or safer. CTO YU: Maybe so, but it's all that's stopping me from being so bored I take a spacewalk in my skivvies.</poem> |

*Sound of flooding* BERKELEY: We're flooding, evacuate! CTO YU: Wait, I can reconfigure the O₂ system to act as a bilge pump! BERKELEY: It's working! *Crash* CTO YU: OK, good news: we're alive, and we've stopped sinking. BERKELEY: Bad? CTO YU: The O₂'s going to run out in 30 minutes and we're 500 meters down. BERKELEY: What do we do? CTO YU: We use the remaining juice to send a distress call and build whatever gear we can, then we find a way to the surface.</poem> |

“ | <poem>CTO YU: We have to go back out there. We can't be the only two that made it.
OFFICER KEEN: Those are not the orders the captain gave me, and they are not the orders I'm giving you. CTO YU: This isn't chain of command, it's survival. The more of us there are, the more likely we live. OFFICER KEEN: My obligations as acting commander don't turn on their convenience. Get out of the water. CTO YU: If I get into trouble, I'll send you my coordinates. OFFICER KEEN: I'm not letting you go back out there alone. I'm coming with you. Just let me leave the PDA for anyone that makes it back here. [Received emergency transmission from Second Officer Keen 2 hours after last activity] OFFICER KEEN: These are my final orders. Rendezvous was a failure. Intercepted a transmission from Alterra HQ, couldn't hear all the detail. Seems they sent a data package to the Aurora. That's your best hope. Consider CTO Yu and I lost at sea. Keen... out.</poem> |

Robotics Bay Security
“ | <poem>From: CTO Yu
To: Technician Hinkle You're such a corporate stooge, Hinkle, live a little! No matter what access codes we put on the robotics bay, the guys are still going to find a way to joyride the mechs. So if the second officer says we've got to change the codes, I'm just saying let's change them to something we won't all forget. How about 6666. The guys will like that.</poem> |
