They function identically to normal Power Cells but hold five times as much power, at the cost of taking five times longer to be fully charged.  A single Ion Power Cell has a maximum energy capacity of 1000. It is unlocked by collecting the data from the orange data terminal inside the Alien Thermal Plant.
