The Escape Pod is the player's current starting location. It is the only one that withstood the crash of the Aurora. Its frame identifies it as Lifepod 5.
The player can get in and out through the top or bottom, by using either the ladder or the bulkhead in the floor.
The internals appear to be damaged and smoldering. Some of the damage can be repaired using the Welder but has no gameplay effect.
It houses a Fabricator and Fragment Analyzer and thus will be visited often in the early stages of the game. It also contains a small amount of storage that houses a random collection of equipment and resources at the beginning of the game.
The Escape Pod can also be moved around by pushing it while swimming or with a vehicle.
A non-functioning Fire Extinguisher is mounted on the Escape Pod bulkhead.
A opening and closing First-Aid-Kit Storage is mounted near the Fire Extinguisher, it currently is empty.

Trivia
The Escape Pod has two seats, indicating that whoever was supposed to take the second seat didn't make it to the Escape Pod on time.
