It is used as a basic navigational device with cardinal direction indicators.   After the player has crafted one compass, it automatically falls in place in the paperdoll UI.   The Compass will appear in the fabricator once some Magnetite is in the inventory. Alternatively, a Compass may be found inside Lifepod 7. Due to its ability to tell the player where they are looking, it can be used for:  

• Keeping track of salvaged areas 
• Navigation with SeaGlide, Seamoth, and Cyclops

  The compass shows at the top middle of the screen, under the depth meter. Facing East (E).
